It's a great introduction to the first and second books. It explains things well, gives subtle hints to future events, without being too obvious. It also gives much needed backstory and character development to characters who didn't receive much, (Charles Faversham, Rook, obviously Arcturus, as well as a little bit for Zacharias, Josephine, Alice, and Edmund.) Overall pretty solid prequel. I just wish it had been a bit longer. As such I give it four stars.

AUGH. So good. Great insight into Arcturus' own past, and how it was not at all rosy and colorful. Quite down-trodden like Fletcher's, or more so for that matter. It got really intense for me during the several confrontations he had, and I have so much damn respect for Arcturus in addition to my initial take on him in the first book. I can't believe Rook is still live and at large, though I guess that's nobility for you. I am thankful that I found this series, thank you Google. Thank you Taran Matharu. This is the first fictional work in years that I've fiendishly been tearing through and craving for more.
