About this ebook

Flesh-eating danger abounds in the chilling sequel to The Monstrumologist that is “as fast-paced, elegant, and yes, gruesome as its predecessor” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

While Dr. Warthrop is attempting to disprove that Homo vampiris, the vampire, could exist, his former fiancée asks him to save her husband, who has been captured by a Wendigo—a creature that starves even as it gorges itself on human flesh. Although Dr. Warthrop considers the Wendigo to be fictitious, he relents and performs the rescue—but is he right to doubt the Wendigo’s existence? Can the doctor and Will Henry hunt down the ultimate predator, who, like the legendary vampire, is neither living nor dead, and whose hunger for human flesh is never satisfied?

This second book in The Monstrumologist series explores the line between myth and reality, love and hate, genius and madness.

I have the book in print (from the library). The Monstrumologist is one of my favorites, and this second book is quite interesting. Giving it 4 stars ONLY because I'm not finished yet...

Better than the first, which is saying A LOT. The follow up to The Monstrumologist starts off with guns blazing, straight into the the heart of adventure. It still retains the delightful character development of the first books, but keeps you glued to the page from start to finish at a faster pace. Yancey's take-your-breath-away prose and ruminations on life are ever present (honestly that's the meat of his books), as is the gore (oh boy...I mean..oh boy, not for the squeamish). The gore is disturbing not for the visual, but for its emotional quality. Nobody does it better than Yancey. Rick Yancey is one of the premiere writers of our time. Period. He has no real contemporaries. Lets hope he gets the recognition that will keep these books coming.

Yancey does a great job with this period work. At once, grotesque and erobesque, he covers all the bases in this New England horror.
