The renegade outlaw group known as the Outsiders may have been chased from Clonmel, but not before killing Halt's only brother. Now Rangers Halt and Will, along with the young warrior Horace, are in pursuit. The Outsiders have done an effective job of dividing the kingdom into factions and are looking to overtake Araluen. It will take every bit of skill and cunning for the Rangers to survive. Some may not be so lucky.

The international bestselling Ranger's Apprentice series turns up the tension in John Flanagan's latest epic of battles and bravery.

Perfect for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone, Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series, and George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series.

A continuation of book eight. Everything wraps up neatly. I did think Halt made a tactical error in behavior and Will was dumber in this book than previous ones. Those inconsistencies brought this down to three stars. This was still engaging and I look forward to the next one.

When I first read the the title I thought, is halt going to die? What happened? I just wanted to skim all the way to the part that halt almost died and see what happened. This book is full of excitement and anticipation that you just can't put it down. I wondered is Halt going to survive? Will Will catch the genovesan in time? Would they loose track of Tennyson? I was shocked for a moment when the genovesan got to Horace and surprised that Halt had been awake the whole time just with no energy to help.
