It was okay. I had typed out a long multi paragraph review of this book and the series as a whole only to have the app crash. So I'll summarize. It didn't make me feel. After reading The Night Angel I wanted more from Brent, hence me starting this series. But it didn't match the emotional response I got from the previous work. This story is DragonBall Z. The heroes win and no one of important stays dead. The bad guys are bad because reasons and they lose. God is real and kind of a dick.

Brent Weeks is the most skilled and wise author of the 21st century, and this is hardly exaggeration. If you value your time, you'll spend it reading this magnificent piece of otherworldly literature. Seriously, it would be stupid to read any other book right now (barring the first 4 books in the series if you haven't already). I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Not only an amazing story but the messages conveyed by the author are something everyone should incorporate into their daily lives and "run the marathon". The author has also created a story of original concepts and characters, shout out to the turtle bear whom reflects my own persona. Thank you Brent Weeks for this story and and series. I'm excited to see if you have anymore creative juice available to create another universe filled with your soul
