About this audiobook

An unfathomable power Nesta Archeron has always been prickly—proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she’s struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can’t seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it. The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre’s Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta’s orbit. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and it only burns hotter as they are forced to work closely together. Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance—and healing—in each other’s arms.

The book itself is great but I'm rating it as an audiobook. The gruff Texan lady narrating this book really kills the mood. She sounds constipated during the sex scenes, like she's clenching her teeth and pushing while reading. The weird way she reads the female parts in this raspy sultry monotone doesn't fit some of the characters or the tone or the context. It's not like she's a bad narrator, she just didn't fit this book and her voice soured the experience. I did really like the new perspective for this book. It was written in third person, unlike the first three, and focused on Nesta and Cassian more than the original protagonists. Some people might not like the change, but I personally get bored with repetition and thought it was a fresh take. The sex scenes were tantalizing and the tension leading up to them was perfect. There was also a lot more of that, a lot more intimate and erotic detail than what was in the first three books.

I almost didnt make it through the first couple chapters because of how she talks about virginity. It's really gross and the sex scenes in general promote anatomical fallacies so outdated and harmful I'm suprised it's written by a woman. If I would have known about them I likely wouldn't have spent my money on this book. The sex scenes actually really gross me out in this book and I've begun to just skip through them. But the story over all is a little better. People are finally standing up to and calling out Nesta. Too bad it didn't start till book 4. I just got to Pegasuses. ok? PEGASUSES. Pegasus is the flying horse's name. Not the breed. Thats like calling all my relitives not Human but Kelleys. Jesus, has any research been done for this series or is it just pure mindless fap material?

I was hesitant to read these books after my girlfriend begged me to, but I can honestly say this is one of my top favorite series!! I don't usually read from female authors but Sarah really knows how to write an amazing story (even better characters) one that I was constantly surprised by with her twists and turns :)
