Will the Wind Riders and the Pack be strong enough to withstand the God of Death? Will the Great Goddess of Life reawaken to join the battle? Will Mari and Nik and their people be rejected by the mighty Riders and be forced to flee for their lives? We're back to the world building, but this is a little easier to read because everything is written with a mixture of wonder and fear. Mari and the Pack are racing for the Plains of the Wind Riders as fast as they can, knowing that Death will not be far behind them. Death, meanwhile make plans to do just as the Pack fears, but he seems unhurried to pursue those who have escaped Him. On the Plains, we meet River who knows nothing of the danger and friendship heading her way and is instead focused on what passes for a normal life in this magical world P.C. Cast has created. I'm truly excited to see who will trumph in the end. Life and all She has created, or Death who destroys everything in His path.

I was sad to reach the end of such an amazing, gripping, & exciting story. But I am so excited to read how the story continues. The detail that went into this story is just jaw dropping. Magnificently written.
