WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A HERO?

As the chosen of the gods and defender of all humanity, everyone expects me to do great things. From the tender age of six, it’s been my duty to serve humankind, and during my first trial by fire in Keren County... I failed miserably. Since then, I’ve devoted my every waking moment to becoming someone worthy of my position. Though I’m still too weak to accomplish much on my own, as long as I’m with my friends, I’m sure there’s something we can do to help people. Hmm? Where’s the spider? What are you talking about...?

The last book made me very excited to continue the story, but then I saw that the description of this book sounded like filler. Now that I've read it, I'll just say that if you don't care about Julius, just skip this one. Julius doesn't even get any interesting interactions with any of the main cast, so it's largely about introducing the rest of his party and the people he met in his life...which means nothing since he got TPK'd by White a few books back and half his party never gets any real screentime in the main series. I was hoping the Sophia side chapters would at least offer some insights on the actions of the main characters, but her chapters are literally only like a page long and are vague to the point of uselessness. Only like three things of even slight import happened in this volume. Sophia's perspective on how school is going (which, as mentioned, is vague), learning about one of the unique reincarnation skills which might play a minor part in the elf conflict (but nothing so complex that it couldn't be explained away in two sentences in the main series), and learning how Ariel views the hero in regards to her policies (which means little since he's dead for half the main series)

This book is pretty much just a recap of what we know has already happened through Julius's pov. There are little added extra events and it gives a new human viewpoint from the other books if your interested in that. I honestly don't think its necessary to read this book for the series but there are little things in it that are good to know if you decide to. I really enjoy this series so far so i read this one mostly because i didn't want to miss any important information for the next books.(spoiler)***The one thing I was expecting to see was what actually happened when Julius died since it was glossed over before but this book ends before that so I was disappointed in that aspect.***(end of spoiler)I did read the whole book and it was okay, not a bad book but just doesn't progress the story to much. I actually did end up having more respect for Julius & friends by the end of it though even if that feels a little pointless bc... ☹

A lot of people are upset that this book covers Julius instead of pushing the story forward.. in truth, this book doesn't really offer anything to the story as the characters this book covers are already gone. That being said. Julius is a very interesting character and comparing Julius to Shun is basically like comparing the real deal(Julius) to bargain bin low budget(Shun). If you're interested in Julius as a character then definitely pick this up.. it gives more depth to his character and certainly made me appreciate him more while also making me further dislike Shun. If you don't care about Julius then honestly just skip this novel.
