This is a good story but it's not a great one. The most annoying thing is the tremendous number of errors that keep popping up. They range from omitting necessary words to duplicating words or phrases. If this manuscript went through an editor, that person should be promptly fired as incompetent. The second gripe I have is the number of stereotypes employed. I don't mind some, in fact I think it's exceptionally hard to meet the standards of the genre without using some. But, both protagonists plus the best friends AND the secondaries?!! There's virtually no character who is NOT a formulaic representation. I had a hard time identifying with any of them they were all so one-dimensional. Lastly, just when I was ready to close the book early, the one unexpected action occurred, keeping me involved. The attack happened. I didn't think that character would actually act. But the outcome was quite predictable. So, not horrible but really not worthy of a place on anyone's must read list.
