About this ebook

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot comes the first story in her Little Bridge Island series—which also includes an excerpt from her forthcoming new full-length novel No Judgments!

Looking for a tropical escape?

Welcome to Little Bridge, one of the smallest—and most beautiful—islands in the Florida Keys, home to sandy white beaches, salt-rimmed margaritas, stunning sunsets, and some of the quirkiest—but also kindest and most resourceful—people you’ll ever meet.

Physical trainer Roberta “Rob” James moved to Little Bridge hoping she’d found paradise, but things haven’t turned out quite as she’d hoped. The closest Rob has come to her “happily ever after” is happy hour at the Mermaid Café with her buddy Bree, the bartender slash waitress who’s got romance problems of her own.

But Rob’s situation suddenly changes when sheriff’s deputy Ryan Martinez accidentally enrolls in her bridal boot camp class. Turning mush into metal in time for the big day is Rob’s passion (because even the happiest bride could use a little toning).

But what happens when a guy who’s all mush meets a girl who’s all metal?

They discover they have a lot to learn . . . about each other, themselves, and the island paradise they’ve come to call home.

Robbie (Roberta) is co-owner of a gym and runs a ‘wedding season’ class that is a mix of aerobics and yoga for brides to be, and those attending weddings and looking to ‘tone up’ before the event. A bit of a commitment phobe, Robbie’s last ex ran off with her money and jewelry with an exotic dancer in tow, leaving her very anti-relationship, anti-man and anti-happily ever afters despite the fact she’s a devotee of Rom Coms and cries at weddings. A newcomer to class, Deputy Sheriff Ryan is about as right a fit for the Boot Camp as a left foot is in a right shoe. His boss, the sheriff, has told him to take yoga to ‘tone down his aggression’ after mistakenly pulling a taser out on a citizen who was attempting to help his partner Chrissie. Fortunately the incident didn’t result in any harm, or a complaint against Ryan, but his boss was insistent. He’s fit however, but it’s weightlifting fit, and Robbie knows that he’s going to find the class far more than he expected, as he will soon discover she is. As this was my first adult title I’d had opportunity to read from Cabot, I was disappointed in the length (4 chapters) and the speed with which the attraction built and climaxed, although both characters were clearly defined, and showed just how their differing outlooks would make for some interesting moments to come. The preview included in this novella bring us to the impending hurricane that threatens the island, and with questions about Robbie and Ryan, his adorable partner, and the waitress with the ‘sad eyes’ in Bree – I can see I’ll want to read the first book in the series to see where things lead. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
