The book deserves 4 stars; it's actually a decent read and didn't further dissuade me from continuing to follow the "Clancy" series. That said, I wanted to give it 2 stars only for the sacrilege of anyone other than Tom Clancy himself adding to the Jack Ryan Sr. canon.

Not at all an easy read. I did not finish it. Too many characters without meaning . Not cohesive.

Good yarn about the early days of Jack Ryan and Mary Pat Foley!

A little more than thirty years ago, Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history. Years before, he had been an English major at Baltimore's Loyola College and had always dreamed of writing a novel.
