About this ebook

You can't escape your darkest thoughts...

Emily Swanson came face to face with a psychopath - and survived. But the ordeal has left its scars. Determined to move on with her life, she visits a weekend retreat called Meadow Pines. With its forest setting and strict ban on technology, it’s the perfect escape.

Until one of the guests is found hanging from a tree.

The evidence points to suicide. But when help fails to arrive and the guests start turning on each other, it's clear that Meadow Pines is not the safe haven it claims to be.

Miles from the nearest town and with darkness falling fast, Emily must race to uncover the horrifying truth… because there is a murderer at the retreat who is about to kill again.

Emily is still having trouble sleeping months later. Being in a forced coma for three months left her with a strong distaste for sleeping pills, and nightmares about being caught again by those who had trapped her. Emily and Jerome are an unusual pair of heroes who seem stuck after escaping the immediate dangers from their recent adventures. An effort to relax at a retreat seems unlikely to help, especially when things get dangerous and lethal again. Friendships can be an oasis in a sea of trouble- thank goodness they have each other. Perhaps their next adventures will find them both decent boyfriends I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

When I finished reading the 1st book in this series, I really wanted to see what Emily is going to do further with her life. And that is one of the reasons why I read the 2nd one almost immediately. My thought was that it would be difficult to create the first magic again. Well, in this case, I have been proven wrong. The 2nd book starts a couple of weeks after the 1st book ends and we get to see how Emily is coping with the trauma she had been through. She decides to go to a retreat to have some peaceful time but unfortunately faces a bizarre situation which tests her peace of mind further. As always with this author's books, I couldn't guess what was happening and who did what. That in itself is very satisfying for me. But as a bonus, there is a good development in the main character and her relationships with people around her. It was very nice to see how much she has progressed since we saw her last. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes a good psychological thriller.

Brilliantly written! As always the story starts with a slow pace and then at a point everything comes tumbling down. Twists and turns you couldn't imagine in your wildest dreams. Malcolm Richards managed once again to leave me shell-shocked and pulled into a reality outside of my own that is also so real!
