I always look forward to a new book by Karen Swan, and this was another great read, set mainly in the rain forest in Costa Rica. Tara is a doctor, but comes from an extremely wealthy family, which she has always felt slightly guilty about and tries to pay it back by being a doctor and not relying on her family's wealth. But it did cause her a lot of heartache when younger, when she was in love with Alex who used her to get to her father, and justified it as being 'for the greater good' of the planet. Tara never got over him, but moved on with her life and ten years later is back in Costa Rica on a holiday with her friends and to meet up with her family to do big handover of the rain forest legacy project her father bought years ago, with Alex helping, back to the government, but it's not without quite a bit of anger from various factions, all wanting something completely different. Whilst there Tara tries to help a young child being treated by a local shaman, but who needs urgent medical treatment to live, so ends up trekking through the rain forest and through various circumstances meets up with Alex again. There is just so much going on here that you're not quite sure who to trust a lot of the time, and it certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat reading it, especially towards the end. But the descriptions of the rain forest are wonderful, you really feel like you are there with them all. Another great read by Karen Swan.
