About this ebook

A New York Times Bestseller

The inspiration for season three of BRIDGERTON, a series created by Shondaland for Netflix, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn: the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington in the fourth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring the charming, powerful Bridgerton family.

COLIN AND PENELOPE’S STORY

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn’t know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat— or his promise of a happy ending?

Although I loved this series (and at one time owned almost a whole shelf of Julia Quinn books), I am very unimpressed that she is offering close to 20 yr old books at more than their original purchase price! (Even for a brand new e-book that's a premium price that most writers couldn't even consider.) If these had been $3 each, I would have probably picked up a 1/2 dozen...after all, I've always been a fan, and there's a lot of them😺. But this - I'm sorry, but to me this is just taking advantage of the consumer and the lockdown to suck money away from new writers and pandemic inmates. It just seems greedy and self-centred.

i read this in preparation of the season 3 of the bridgerton series. the beginning is one hell of a prologue. it is very well-written. i'm not really a fan of romance so i think it's very romantic for me. though it doesn't just focuses on romance, it also focuses on penelope's relationship with herself. i find her very relatable. the story shows the growth of penelope from being a shy timid girl who is always on the corner to finally being able to accept herself and be confident who is now a center of attraction, fully accepting herself and embracing her flaws. i like her character development. the friendship of penelope and eloise is also highlighted in the story. it is a beautiful heartfelt story of love; romantic love, self-love, and platonic love.

Friends to lover trope has always been one of my favourite storyline so I was quite excited to begin this book. However, what caught me by surprise was how much I cared about Penelope's character development as compared to romance itself. Being once a wallflower myself, I feel seen thanks to Penelope. I totally can relate to her feelings, her thoughts & her insecurities. I could only hope to get her romance lol. Thank you Julia for creating Penelope!
