About this ebook

An extraordinary Lucas Davenport thriller from #1 New York Times–bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner John Sandford.

After the events in Gathering Prey, Lucas Davenport finds himself in a very unusual situation—no longer employed by the Minnesota BCA. His friend the governor is just cranking up a presidential campaign, though, and he invites Lucas to come along as part of his campaign staff. “Should be fun!” he says, and it kind of is—until they find they have a shadow: an armed man intent on killing the governor...and anyone who gets in the way.

Lucas Davenport is back and this time he's not employed.... which is how he finds himself responding to a call from his Governor friend. The Governor has just started a presidential campaign and invites Lucas to join him as part of his staff. Sounds like fun, he says. And it is .. until ... They discover there is someone out there who wants to kill the governor. This puts Lucas back in the law enforcement seat searching for the person or person(s) who want the Governor out of the way in the name of some political bent. There is a female Democrat who is also running for President, and whoever these people are want to make sure she gets to the White House. Sound a little familiar? Almost sounds like a Breaking News moment. Which is probably why I didn't enjoy this one nearly as much as I have others that I've read in this series. Lucas and Weather are the same as always .... he does his thing, she does hers. He's still very much in his element when seeking out the bad guys. The book is well-written, I think it's more of content not pleasing me. It certainly won't keep me from reading the next one. My thanks to the author / PENGUIN GROUP Putnam / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Sandford leads Davenport into solving a crime without his badge but with all his friends support. Exciting action in a current political setting. Couldn't put it down.
