Jim Lee at the top of his game -- as were the inker, colorist and letterer. They really made a beautiful book. Loeb's mystery story is predictable but still chugs along at a brisk enough pace, and it's fun to see all the villians doing their thing, as well as the interactions of the supporting bat-cast of heroes. Motivations, characterizations of heroes and villians are interesting and well written -- that and the stunning art make up for an easily deduced "mystery villian."

The mystery was phenomenal. It always had the reader guessing and thinking they knew who the villain mastermind would be. Only problem was the reader had it in mind it was the person the writers wanted them to believe the villain was; but not actually the mastermind till the end. The series always keeps you guessing. The love story as always with Batman is on the edge but a familiar one throughout the history of Batman. All in all a great series.

One of the most overrated batman stories of all time. It has paper thin story that manages to be super predictable. Its mainly just an excuse to have Jim Lee draw a new batman villain every issue
