While I miss the original Archie Sonic comic continuity, and canon, this is a good way to begin this new comic reboot. It basically takes place shortly after the events of the newest game at the time "Sonic Forces," but you don't need to of played that game to understand it. The four issues in this compilation focus nicely on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and introduce new character Tangle. She is a fun, silly, and strong character, and luckily doesn't overshadow the classic characters, or anything, like some new characters in comic adaptations do. Nor is she a "Princess Sally replacement" like some claim, as her personality/design is much different, and she isn't a romantic interest. Only thing missing is classic villain Dr. Robotnik AKA Dr. Eggman, but as the series goes on he gets cleverly reintroduced to the series, and you'll see plenty of his badniks in this collection. The art and writing is good and suitable for fans young or old.

I'm so glad IDW continued the Sonic comics after Archie was over with them! I haven't really read much since they started but I was big fan of the Archie ones and the fact that Ian Flynn is writing them is awesome! I wish he could write the games as well 😍 So far so good, and I'm sure it'll get better from here! I can't wait to get all caught up on it!

In my personal opinion, Sonic IDW gets good in its story with Issue #4 and past it. My favorite aspect of this compilation is the introduction of the new character in issue #4 - Tangle the lemur. She look like a Sonic-character straight out of SEGA of Japan. Should you, dear reader(s), read Sonic IDW? In my subjective opinion: Absolutely YES :) Since this is a compilation of issue 1 to 4, you won't be getting any of the unrelated sample comics - like Spyro or the Powerpuff girls. I'm buying the Sonic comics just for Sonic, not for the Powerpuff girls. If I wanted a free sample, then I'll just press the "free sample"-button and that's it. As for what I personally disliked: I mean no disrespect to the artist(s) of issue #2 and #3, but I did not like the art style of those. Now, this all I wanted to say about this compilation. See you all in the review-section of Vol. 2. Bye-bye now. :)
