About this ebook

Galaxies collide in a thrilling new series from bestselling author Ian Douglas, as the last humans in the universe face off against a new threat

2162. Thirty-eight years after first contact, Lord Commander Grayson St. Clair leads the Tellus Ad Astra on an unprecedented expedition to the Galactic Core, carrying more than a million scientists, diplomats, soldiers, and AIs. Despite his reservations about their alien hosts, St. Clair is deeply committed to his people—especially after they're sucked into a black hole and spat out four billion years in the future.

Civilizations have risen and fallen. The Andromeda Galaxy is drifting into the Milky Way. And Earth is most certainly a distant memory. All that matters now is survival. But as the ship's Marines search for allies amid ancient ruins and strange new planetary structures, St. Clair must wrap his mind around an enemy capable of harnessing a weapon of incomprehensible power: space itself.

A decent book that could have been 200 pages shorter if the author hadn't explained every single scientific theory mentioned, told irrelevant lore that added nothing to the story, and seemingly repeated the same point multiple times If not for the hook near the end of the story, this would have been a forgettable sci-fi tale that I gave up on after one book. Have not yet decided if I want to pursue the story any further

I think you can tell the author is listening to feedback. The star carrier series was critiqued for being very repetitive and having read books 1-3 then audio booked the remaining it did grind a little. This has a much better balance of 'reminders'. Can't wait for book two on audio (don't get time to read much at the moment)

That was hard going at times, I don't mind having things explained so that the reader understands what certain science terms mean, but in this story there was to much techno stuff being explained to the reader, and I felt it distracted from the story to much, it just made it hard reading at times.
