About this ebook

In a dark dystopian future, Gotham City has descended into lawlessness in the ten years since the Dark Knight retired. When his city cries out for help, Batman returns to save the city he had dedicated his life to protecting. Joined by Carrie Kelly, a teenaged female Robin, Batman takes to the streets to end the threat of the mutant gangs that have overrun the city. And after facing off against his two greatest enemies, the Joker and Two-Face, for the final time, Batman finds himself in mortal combat with his former ally, Superman, in a battle that only one of them will survive. Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN are considered two of the most influential superhero graphic novels of all time, cementing Miller's status as one of his generation's greatest graphic storytellers. Collected here are both parts of Miller's DARK KNIGHT saga, including THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS #1-4, THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN #1-3, with additional character sketch and script pages.

"The Dark Knight Returns" is a good story. If you want to see it, I heartily recommend you watch the animated movie and never think about THIS again. THIS is a way overpriced combination edition where the 2nd and 3rd parts vastly outnumber the 1st part and have no where near the quality of it. Part 1's artstyle is a little rough, but 2 and 3 are ATROCIOUS and I'm open to the idea a middle schooler with some stick figures could make better depictions. The plot of 2 and 3 is nonsensical and requires mental gymnastics to line it up with itself, never mind part 1. There are very few things so unredeemable I consider straight up deleting it from my library- This is one of them.

The plots is excelsior. Some may be not like the art style much, but I love it because it's so unique. This deluxe edition is simply the best, wish there will be more like this in upcoming titles. DC rocks! Thanks, Mr. Miller.

About the author

Frank Miller began his career in comics in the late 1970s and rose to fame while first drawing, and then writing, Daredevil for Marvel Comics. He was also the creative force behind BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, BATMAN: YEAR ONE and BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN. His many works have not only redefined classic characters, but also, on a few occasions, revitalized the comics industry. His creator-owned Sin City hit the page in 1991, and then the silver screen in 2005-with Miller on board as co-director. His multi-award-winning 300 graphic novel was brought to full-blooded life in the 2007 motion picture of the same name, and in 2008 he directed the feature film of Will Eisner's The Spirit. His most recent graphic novel is Holy Terror, published in 2011 by Legendary Comics.
