Ratings and reviews

While this novel sets up some key events in the Honorverse and is therefore a necessary read for Honorphiles, it's one of the weakest novels in the extended series. The plot is overly contrived, and requires the majority of main characters to be sociopaths to react in the way they do. Flint forgets that his characters are supposed to be people, not pawns. It makes it hard to read when you are constantly having to suppress the desire to scream "no sane human being would respond that way".

Plenty of action and plot twist.
