Detectives Ava Gold and Frank Wimbly look into the deaths of the ignored and unwanted in 1929 New York City. Immigrant women are being killed and no one seems to care except for NYC Police Detective Ava Gold. As Ava and Frank investigate the deaths, Ava uncovers corruption in one of her fellow officers, and inadvertently finds herself in the grip of the killer. There is a bit of poetic justice as the killer is brought down by his prey. Ava and Frank are brought closer together through this case.

City of ghosts besides being a work of crime fiction is also an accurate portrait of the beginning of the 20th century in New York City. There was prejudice against women, ad even though America was considered a "giant melting pot", there was rising prejudice against immigrants who were considered to be stealing jobs from real Americans and also all sort of opportunities. Therefore, anything relating to the immigrants was not seriously considered, even when it involved crimes against them. This is the main issue behind finding who was the culprit in this story. Another story beautifully written by Blake Pierce.

Immigrant women are being murdered but no one seems to care or bother to investigate. Ava begs to investigate but they only give her a short time to stay on the case. This takes many twists and turns but finally she gets some results. Very good book. Can't wait for more.
