About this audiobook

A place in your home. A place at your hearth.

Kadou, the shy prince of Arast, finds himself at odds with one of the most powerful ambassadors at court—the body-father of the queen’s new child—in an altercation that results in his humiliation.

To prove his loyalty to the queen, his sister, Kadou takes responsibility for the investigation of a break-in at one of their guilds, with the help of his newly appointed bodyguard, the coldly handsome Evemer, who seems to tolerate him at
best. In Arast, where princes can touch-taste precious metals with their fingers and myth runs side by side with history, counterfeiting is heresy, and the conspiracy they discover could cripple the kingdom’s financial standing and bring about its ruin.

Honestly I would give this book 3.5 stars. I was interested throughout but it got a little jumbled along the way as well. Like, it was just a bit too wordy causing me to lose focus, and the intrigue got lost. About half way through i thought "what exactly is so pressing about this?" It felt more like a scandal than the empire shaking plot of subversion it was treated like. I mean, the intrigue is a prop for the chara ter arc. which I prefer over, say, acotar shoving it in your face and letting flop around like a gasping fish that you just want to put out of it's misery. The love story feels soft and easy to fall into though. I've seen reviews that bemoan the flowery language used to descibe sex, but suprisingly it didn't feel out of place. The entire story feels slightly formal and flowery. That's the scene. So, if you want a beautifully worded love story with a soft focus on the rest of the world you'll love this book.
