About this app

The non-profit Donate Speech project collects speech samples for the needs of artificial intelligence development and research, as well as language research. Donations help to develop, for example, speech recognition that understands all kinds of Finnish - with dialects, breaks and blockages. In this way, we will be able to use the voice-controlled devices and services of the future also in Finnish. Well-functioning voice guidance is especially important in nursing work, such as nursing care.

Donate speech for the development of speech recognition and language research in Finnish! Tell us about current affairs, remember or think aloud, and let this mobile app record your speech in a shared voice bank. Choose the theme you want, and let presenters, images, and videos transport you from one speech situation to another. Also invite friends to donate!

Donating speech and disclosing personal information in the Donate Speech campaign is completely voluntary. Behind the project are Yle, the University of Helsinki and the state development company Vake, among others. Your donation ends up under the control of the University of Helsinki and can be passed on to Finnish and international researchers and companies through the Language Bank. Donors are not sought to be identified, but avoid mentioning names and sensitive matters.
