Participation in this program is currently limited to USAA members with an active auto insurance policy in select states.

The USAA SafePilot App instructs, inspires and rewards safe driving habits to help keep you safe on the road while lowering your auto insurance premium.

Eligible members can receive a discount of up to 10% for enrolling and participating in the program, and earn a premium discount at renewal time for being safe drivers. 

When activated, the app monitors driving habits including phone handling, hands-free phone use, harsh braking, and how much you drive. The better you drive, the greater the discount on your next premium. All members of a household included on a USAA auto insurance policy can participate, with the earned discount based on an average of each driver’s individual score.

Ratings and reviews

It's easy to set up and it's better than similar apps. But it does make mistakes once in a while. It has a button to adjust weather you were the driver or not, but it doesn't have a button to dispute the "infraction" it recorded. Another thing is that it's a bit demotivating because I can see my score drop when I make one mistake but I don't see it raise after a perfect trip. Either way it has gotten me great discounts with my insurance, so still using it.

This app is great and the discounts are nice. The issue that I have with it is that on an Android, it won't automatically continue to run in the background even when permissions have been enabled. You have to open the app before you drive and then let it run in the background and then it dings you for using your phone while driving... Again, it's a great app and nice idea but it needs work. A lot of work.

This app seems to work as intended. However, I HATE that there is no option in the app to only use WiFi to upload drives. I am a light data user so only pay for a 2GB pool of data per month, and this app uses approximately 10% of it since there is no WiFi only option. I have unticked the use of data in the background in the Android settings for this app but this still occurs. Please incorporate this feature soon!
