Well the app does what it is intended to do. For detailed information look at the real review further below. For a quick point review here you go. 1. Connected DVR-917HD to MotoZ4 fine first time but will need to forget WiFi network and reconnect through phone WiFi settings. 2. Can change resolution and light settings of the camera you are using fine. 3. Can access photos and videos on phone/tablet if allowed easily 4. Can select camera recording settings. Time lapse, stills flipped settings or car recording. I can connect to the WiFi perfectly fine on my DVR 917HD. All I did was press the WiFi button on the side of the action cam and it displays the WiFi information on the screen. I then went to my phone's WiFi settings and then searched for another WiFi network then the camera's WiFi network (model of the camera) was displayed. I connected to the network and then opened then app. I then shut the camera off and then turned it back on and relaunched the app. Tried to reconnect again but I could not as the app was saying that there was an error. I clicked on the forget network option and then tried to reconnect to the camera again and it connected. I relaunched the app and then it connected. Kind of confusing so it seems that the app needs to be able to release some network assignments even though the app says that I am connected to the camera via the app. I could switch the resolution easily and I was able to press record and record video. You also have the ability to change the type of lighting modes through this app. I tested under florescent light and cloudy skies. There is a bit of a lag but nothing to get mad about if you ask me. Kind of defeats the purpose to continue to hold your phone/tablet and action camera when the camera is meant to be an action camera, don't you think... But here is the thing. You can view recorded video and pictures that are stored on your phone if you allow the app to access these files and all but when you click on the gear icon, the app crashes. The first thing I see is the frequency settings for a split second and then the app crashes. I don't close out of the app, instead I leave feedback saying what I do. I tried about 4 times even resetting my phone and the camera and still go the same thing. Overall the app does can be worked with for a bit of patience and only if you can get away with just using the record button or switching resolutions and modes. Overall, it is a bit on the clunky side. It has a basic interface and it seems like it was only optimized for people with apple phones or really expensive android phones. Usually whenever I use apps like these it does tell me that they did more testing on apple products and the bare minimum on the android based phones. I would recommend that the dev team push updates to fix the connection problem, maybe verse themselves a little more in network connectivity since it seems that connection issues are a major gripe. Also fix the crashing when trying to tap the gear icon when connected to the camera. If I could give a 2.5 I would but I'm going to hit it up with a 3 because I want the dev team to utilize the good faith behavior and push an update to fix this but I am uninstalling it off my phone and I'll check back in 2 weeks. Ball is in your court, good luck

At first I could not believe the overwhelming number of comments indicating that this app would not even connect to the camera. I am now on my third unit with the exact same results. After having established a connection to the camera's wifi network the app would still not, for whatever reason, even recognize the connection. I don't understand how any company could release a product so underdeveloped. This is the kind of thing that destroys confidence in a brand, Vivitar.

GARBAGE! Can't connect the camera to my phone although they are connected via Wifi, says "Go to system preferences connect to camera wifi and try again". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, used different phones (Galaxy S10+ and Note 9), erased and reconnected to the camera wifi and keep getting that error. FIX IT!
