About this show

Broadchurch is an 8-part drama series which looks at how the murder of a boy - Danny Latimer - affects a small, market town in Dorset. It will explore what happens to this small community when it suddenly becomes the focus of a major event and is subjected to the full glare of the media spotlight. The main focus of the drama is the investigation into Danny's death lead by DI Hardy [David Tennant] and DS Ellie Miller [Oliva Colman], but other strands explored in the drama include the impact on Danny's immediate family, and how they cope and move on; the wider community in the town, and how they deal with the tragedy; the role of the church in such circumstances, and how people affected by the crime can look to faith; and also the role of the media - local and national - and how people deal with the kind of scrutiny a crime like this brings. From the immediate family, and then radiating out, one by one the community of Broadchurch are drawn into the police enquiry, Local hoteliers and business people are implicated as the effects of a death in the community begins to impact on their hard-earned livelihoods. But can the town survive such a seismic shock during its economically crucial summer months? As the case drags on, the whole town will come under pressure: personal, economic, professional and emotional.

BBC has done it again! This is a winner in my book. Okay not that I'm a David Tennant fan (of course I am - he's my favorite Dr. Who) but the other cast members are magnificent and clearly capture the intensity of the plot. Oliva Colman as DS Ellie Miller suits the role to a tee. In only 2 episodes, her raw intensity paired with occasional bursts of self doubt & scrutiny have developed her character into an integral part of the story. She does a beautiful job of not only portraying a detective, but a wife, a mother, a community member & a good friend to the Price family as she learns how to work with the ever brooding DI Hardy. I can't wait to see David Tenants character go beyond the brooding, "I've been thru hell and back" character we have seen thus far. It is evident that his recent past will play an important role in pulling the plot together to discover the real killer(s). Although the two detectives just met, you can see that each brings to the table their own skills & experiences. When they finally learn to trust & rely on one another the plot will thicken, offering a much hoped for & anticipated climactic conclusion! I can't wait to watch it unfold...

Along with top-notch acting and writing, this series is an absolute feast for the senses: the cinematography (aided considerably by one of the most beautiful shooting locations I've ever seen) is at once exquisite and claustrophobic, exploring the seaside town as both sunny tourist destination and close-knit community. Right alongside the gorgeous visuals is the utterly haunting soundtrack by Olafur Arnalds that left me spellbound with each episode. Do not miss this!

So far ive only seen season #1, so thats why its a 4/5 (Will update after season 2). This is one of the few series to get me emotionaly bonded, the only other series to do that is Lost. I loved the twist on the murderer, and all in all it a great series.
