About this movie

New England, 1630. Upon threat of banishment by the church, an English farmer leaves his colonial plantation, relocating his wife and five children to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest — within which lurks an unknown evil. Strange and unsettling things begin to happen almost immediately — animals turn malevolent, crops fail, and one child disappears as another becomes seemingly possessed by an evil spirit. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, family members accuse teenage daughter Thomasin of witchcraft, charges she adamantly denies. As circumstances grow more treacherous, each family member's faith, loyalty and love become tested in shocking and unforgettable ways.

Obvious Oscar bait, mainly focused on its great cinematography and setting bit has dull story with many scenes taking about 10 minutes to sit through rather than easily making them 2 minutes. The trailers and reviews make you feel as if this movie will leave you feeling dirty and with a sinful nature but instead you're left thinking one thing "that's it?" Don't listen to the five or four star reviews as those are obviously critics who only enjoy the movie because it's "a modern piece of art" rather than telling a coherent and thoughtful story.

The story is more creepy than scary. I found it odd that creepy music begins playing in scenes where absolutely nothing happens. The dialogue is all in old English and a lot of it seemed to be mumbled making it hard to understand what they are saying throughout most of the movie. I was told that Steven King said it was the scariest movie he'd ever seen. Don't think that was true or he's really just a big wimp. Am sorry I bought it. Wish I had just rented but at the time renting wasn't an option.

I watched this movie and I couldn't get past the ten minute mark, my poor father watched the rest. This movie isn't scary but boring and bland! This movie did do one thing right they got the English talk right because I can't understand a single fricking word the lead is saying and second of all I don't understand how people think this is scary to me it is a horrible movie with no plot and the inability to understand anything that's happening. I was mostly confused about this film.
