About this movie

Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity. Now that they’re entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball – the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.

I really didn't know anything about this movie before watching it - I just knew who the actors were - and it ended up being a great holiday buddy comedy that at times didn't take itself too seriously. It's no A Christmas Story or It's A Wonderful Life, but it's something I could see myself watching every Christmas.

It starts off fine with a story about two friend being there for their other friend for christmas. Then they bring drugs into this movie and creepy people and every person except Joseph Gordon Levitt is a horrible person. But then it has an upbeat posing to distract you from how awful it is.

The Night Before was so much more than the Seth Rogen/Columbia Pictures comedy I was expecting. Rogen still plays that same character, but this movie balances it well with different comedy styles. While parts of the movie might be a bit crass, somehow it ends up resembling a good, heartwarming Christmas movie.
