HACKSAW RIDGE: HACKSAW RIDGE is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers, was wounded by a grenade, and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector to ever earn the Congressional Medal of Honor. / MIDWAY: MIDWAY centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds.

Ratings and reviews

Hacksaw Ridge is excellent. 5 out of 5 stars. It has some great action sequences along with some good humour. Like the knife in the foot. That part is pretty amusing. Not to mention how great of a guy Desmond Doss was. Midway was okay. It had some great CGI sequences (which Hacksaw Ridge had less of) but it didn't have a whole lot of plot. You didn't really get to know the characters. Overall though, it is great.

Hacksaw Ridge is a 5 star film, one of the greatest war films made. Midway is a 3 and a half out of 5. A respectful to our vets War film, like many, that makes you feel like your going on a ride, really, in history. All together 4 stars to maybe getting to 4 and a half.

If you are going to rate this double feature, you also have to include Pearl Harbor! Which for some strange reason was not included in this package. Band Of Brothers stands on it's own merits.
