I definitely appreciate the themes of gay acceptance, but this movie just feels like another chick flick... it could have been much more profound or meaningful, yet instead they cranked out your stereotypical high school movie and just added a gay main character and called it a day. I would've loved to see the more realistic struggle thousands of in-the-closet teens go through, and the character development of Simon. Overall it was just ok.

It's about a gay guy who is coming out. And it's a really bland movie and very boring. Like watching a chick flick with a gay guy who might as well have been written in as a female because there's no development for him as a gay individual. He has no personality outside of being gay. At least give the lead some personality to make him relatable so you can legitimately root for him to be excepted. I want to be able to relate to the characters I watch instead of watching the clock wondering when the movie will end. There's way better LGBTQ media out there. Watch one of those instead.

It was a great message and a great step forward for gay rights and acceptance, but the acting by Nick Robinson (who plays Simon) wasn't very convincing. He showed little emotion and you could tell he was cringing when he kissed a guy. I know he's straight in real life but the acting on his part could have been better. Overall though, it was very funny, light and had a fantastic message- it made me tear up a bit at the end.
