About this movie

Based on the best-selling novel by Thomas Harris, HANNIBAL continues the story begun in Silence of the Lambs. Seven years have passed since Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) escaped from custody, seven years since FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) interviewed him in a maximum-security hospital for the criminally insane. The doctor is now at large in Europe, pursuing his own interests, savoring the scents, the essences of the unguarded world. But Starling has never forgotten her encounters with Dr. Lecter -- his seldom-used voice still haunts her dreams. Mason Verger remembers Dr. Lecter, too, and is obsessed with revenge. Verger was Dr. Lecter's sixth victim, and though hideously disfigured, has survived. In order to draw Dr. Lecter into the open, Verger uses Clarice Starling as bait.

The whole "catch me if you can" vibe has robbed this flick of some of the captive intensity of the first film. That being said... There's still the grotesquery here, and it brings the film to 4 stars... That and Anthony Hopkins. Julliane Moore delivers a great performance as Clarice Starling but she doesn't make me forget about Jodie foster.

Anthony Hopkins is so pleasing to watch. Julianne Moore does a pretty good job but Hopkins keeps me transfixed. I never get tired of seeing or hearing (extraordinary soundtrack) this. A true cinematic gift. Not to mention completely does justice to the equally tasteful and satisfying novel. Ta ta H

Great movie. Did a spectacular job following the book. My only grievance is that there was no mention of Mischa, and the final pages where Starling succumbs to the Stockholms Syndrome and they begin their lives together are missing entirely.
