About this movie

Experience three spine-tingling tales of terror to haunt your dreams. A debunker of all things paranormal, Professor Phillip Goodman (Andy Nyman) has devoted his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans on his own television show. His skepticism is put to the test, however, when he receives a file of three chilling, inexplicable cases: a night watchman (Paul Whitehouse) haunted by disturbing visions as he patrols an abandoned asylum; an edgy young man (Black Mirror's Alex Lawther) involved in a hellish car accident deep in the woods; and a wealthy former banker (Sherlock's Martin Freeman) visited by the poltergeist spirit of his unborn child. Even scarier: each of the these macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to Professor Goodman's own life. Will they make a believer of him yet?

Im a big horror fan, so for the most part I really have seen it all...and with that said, I thought this movie was brilliant overall. I've been desensitized by watching so many horror movies and tv shows. For example, some horror movies start to feel overly predictable or I've seen the same story told in ten different ways before, or the movie is nothing but blood and guts and has no story to it at all. So I get a little sad when I watch a new horror flick and nothing within it creeps me out, not even a little bit... Ive watched all different types of sub-genres of horror and I enjoy mostly everything if its at least well written & decently performed; however when it comes to ghost movies there really haven't been that many that stand out to me as being truly scary, and most ghost movies simply employ petty jump tactics. Im sorry to say, but jump scares shouldnt make a horror movie a "good one". I think that most of the people leaving a poor review for this film are the types of folks who just want constant jump scares thrown in their faces and they call it a good time, or maybe the people leaving negative reviews are just unhappy that the movie wasn't a zombie movie or teen slasher flick? This movie has a few jump scares and they are VERY well placed and creepy, however this is a far more thoughtful and deeper-meaning type of horror film that will leave you thinking about it long after it's over. I was very pleasantly surprised that in this particular movie, there were a few scenes that genuinely had the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and truly creeped me out a lot. The timing, scenery, cinematography, and great actors who seemed genuinely scared, really lured me in. At the end of the "first horror tale", it had me very creeped out and feeling in shock as to what I would personally do if I was stuck in that situation. This movie's entire story, especially its sub-plots or "3 different horror plots" were all unique and kept me interested all the way through. This was an excellent film considering there are so many sub-par horror story-writers and actors out there. I would easily give this movie a 9 out of 10 for the ghost movie genre, and I would absolutely put this movie in the top 10 ghost movies ever made....and I would possibly go as far as to put this movie in the top 15 or 20 of all horror movies ever made (so far). I'm astounded at the poor reviews for this movie; but as they say, "everyone is a critic". People have different tastes in what scares them and what they call horror, but as a horror-film "connoisseur", I can happily state that anyone who enjoys horror and doesnt just hate something because it doesnt have their favorite teenage vampire in it, and as long as you are someone who doesn't hate a horror movie just because it didnt have 22+ jump scares in it, and if you are someone who is bored or fed-up with the normal jump-scare, gore-fest depictions, b-movie actors, and boring-plot horror movies that get pumped-out by Hollywood (or worse) all the time; then I'm sure that you will discover that this movie is unique, high-quality, and its a winner. Enjoy.

For those of you who like anthology movies, this is a great one,,,but be prepared for some tremendous twists. As with the best movies, you cannot tell from one moment to the next where its going to lead you. And I sense that this is precisely the reason for some of the negative reviews. The naysayers just can't tolerate anything but the same old predictable rubbish.

If you've seen the play, the movie is (surprisingly) a huge improvement over the source material. More tightly written, and a great homage to classic horror- from Hammer horror to William Castle. Definitely not for the modern horror fan, but for lovers of classic horror, this is a modern classic.
