Edward S. Curtis (1868 - 1952) photographed and documented over 80 different tribes of Native Americans in the early 1900s. Producing a 20-volume encyclopedia, he documented their complete culture: crafts, songs, spirituality, and language. His vision was to create a body of work that would "make them live forever".
