Carl Burgos

Carol Burgos was born April 18, 1916 in New York City. He became an American comic book creator and is best known for creating the original Human Torch for Marvel Comics in 1939 when the company was called Timely comics. His creation, along with Captain America and the Sub-Mariner, were the three biggest stars for the company during the Golden Age of comic books. In 1942 he went into the military to fight the war in real life that his creation was helping to fight on the printed page. After the war Carl went to school to study advertising and kept writing and drawing for comic books like Marvel, Archie and in 1966 he was hired by Myron Fass for MF Enterprises to create more comic books. Their line was short-lived. In 971 Carl took an editing job for Myron Fass again but it was for his black and white horror line called Eerie Publications. He worked their till 1975. His last known job was as an editor for Harris Publications before his death in 1984 from colon cancer.
