About this ebook

There is no going back-only moving forward
The Labyrinth's subjugation is close at hand, and the city's chemists are more knowledgeable than ever before. All of this could be credited to the efforts of a certain alchemist, puttering around in her little atelier. As Mariela works her magic on the city, those around her begin to confront change: Sieg is honing his combat skills to become an A ̄Rank adventurer, while Lynx is starting to come to terms with his feelings for Mariela. And even though no one promised that these carefree days would last forever, Mariela has never once thought to question it, basking in the warmth of her favorite people at Sunlight's Canopy...

This volume was a hell of a ride. So many things happen in this volume that I'm still kind of overwhelmed (in a good way). Many of the characters we already know were developed much further in this volume including flashbacks about their past and reflections of their lives now. There was a particular scene with Sieg that made me think Sieg just turned into Mulan. There is quite a bit of foreshadowing and tension was built really well as the volume reached a climax. To make sure this doesn't happen to you, when you read the manga intro in the volume and you reach the end, you'll see a blank page. Make sure to NOT go past the blank page into the afterword because you'll accidentally read a HUGE spoiler for something that happens in the volume. Among other things, there were quite a few grammatical errors in this volume. They didn't really affect the story, but it took me out of the story a bit. Anyways, this was a great volume, it still has it's comedic moments, but the tone of the story becomes very serious as it goes on. I am so excited for the next one because of the huge cliffhanger they left off with.

I liked the previous two well enough, even through any flaws. In this case, one of the characters basically says "I am going to abandon the one job I am supposed to do and go do something COMPLETELY different in order to prove that I am worthy for that job I abandoned." A multitude of reasons could have been given for it, but that is instead given as the reason. The underlying plot advancement and world state are consistent with previous novels, but character development and actions of certain characters are inconsistent with their development until now, or even with their own perspective during their sections. I really wanted to like this, but I just found myself hating the characters after a while.

Ok, it's a must read. The plot twist caught me which rarely happens. A simple slice of life with a great side and back story.
