It's very redundant and long winded. Honestly could have been edited down and would have been better. Main character really doesn't have a personality other then I want to survive and not much interesting memories from his past either. For all the potential there is for the premise it's just wasted and the plot also doesn't really seem to progress much. The author set up a protagonist who can mutate and get stronger but he never displays the characters strength vs an advisary around his strength or weaker. I know the fights with the monsters was supposed to display his strength progression but they weren't really something that actually feels important at all. Over all I felt like I wasted my time. And it doesn't even seem like he become a king at the end either.

A Good Read it's not perfect: the author is a bit redundant in places, especially when it comes to making sure the reader knows the rules about how his undead work, and other bits of exposition. but I still found it an engaging read in spite of that. I liked our protagonist and found his analytical if sometimes pathological outlook on things interesting. definitely worth the read. I'm only sad there isnt a volume 2 out yet at the time of writing this review.

I don't often rate stuff so take my star rating with a grain of salt, but this story dodges a lot of pitfalls that other stories suffer from. there's not a self insert as far as I can tell, and most characters have well defined personalities and motives that they don't abandon for the sake of the story. Character development is there but not too prevalent as to completely change the main character, his ultimate goal doesn't change, but how he could accomplished that goal fluctuates throughout the story to a degree that makes his experience believable. Any surprises that occur are foreshadowed, some not as great as others, but all made sense in the context of the story and didn't leave any bad tastes in my mouth. (The magic system has an info dump that was confusing at first but makes more sense over time) I chose this book actually looking for a romance fantasy, and this book doesn't meet that criteria, however despite that, it hooked me and I enjoyed it all the way through.
