Marvel, the House of Militaristic Ideas, goes EMO. I really liked the first 100 pages. Then I could no longer deny this was just a Moore /Morrisson/Gaiman Marvel experiment in making art that's already been made. The erms and umms and uhhs begin to build and EMO Vision's wife and UBER EMO Vision's daughter become unbearable. Writer King has a strong style hiding behind a facade created by established talents. He can turn a phrase without being fancy. But his influences have something mystical about them, even the supreme self-promoter Gaiman, who was one of the best when he was in his prime. This story just becomes gloomy for gloom's sake and it lacks the depth and surprises of its inspirations. The Vision here makes Dr. Manhattan look like Robin Williams. If you can't care for the characters, you can't care for the story. Three stars because King could well be a successor to the great comics writers of the last thirty-five-plus years. Time will tell.

Read Vol v2 ( you can see my review already) Unfortunately , haven't read Vol 1 so that's a shame!
