The book tells the story of a young gentleman Arthur Pendennis from a coun-tryside, who travels to London to ? nd his place in society. In line with other Thackeray’s works, the novel is a satiric picture of the English aristocratic society, which includes all sorts of snobbish and sometimes detestable characters.
