About this ebook

Masterfully told and as suspenseful as it is haunting, The Green Mile is Stephen King’s classic #1 New York Times bestselling dramatic serial novel and inspiration for the Oscar-nominated film starring Tom Hanks.

Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk “the Green Mile,” the lime-colored linoleum corridor leading to a final meeting with Old Sparky, Cold Mountain’s electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities over the years working the Mile, but he’s never seen anything like John Coffey—a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. And in this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about John Coffey—a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs…

I've seen the movie and decided to finally read the book with my daughter for her American Lit class in high school. Finally a movie that held its own with the book it is based on. It is a book that I just wanted to keep reading, only stopping to sleep, eat, work and occasionally grunt a few words at/with my wife and kids... It is a long book which is sometimes a challenge for some but for me I was happy as I wanted more, I still want more after its 600 odd pages of literary treats. I was surprised it was written by Stepehen King as I have likened him to such novels as "Misery", "Pet Cemetary" and "The shining". This book has the surpernatural at its roots but is cleverly disquised by John Coffey ("like the drink, only not spelled the same") a must like if not love character. It reads as true as any real story I've ever heard and I am half conviced it could be a true story. Only a writter as talented as King could give you that feeling from an obviously fictious story. I must say this is one of, if not the best book I have read to date and I am a heavy reader. It is easy for me to recommend to anyone of any skill to give this book a shot, it reads very fast and easy, for 600 pages

the book goes into more depth of what I feel when reading it. I seen the movie, but wanted to read the book for this same reason. King is great in writing his books!

Gave this a power-read while on vacation during relaxing times and travel layovers. I've seen parts of the movie in the past when flipping channels so some of the plot was already known but the start and finish were new to me. A great read; Stephen King does a wonderful job of formulating the Good and the Bad and tying their interactions together. The story is not quite suspense/thriller and not quite horror; nonetheless it is a page turner filled with 1930's stereotypes and churns the emotions.
