King brings humor, intrigue, and his expertise to the art of creative writing. Although it's not really a "how to" guide it does cover the bare bones of the writing process and gets the reader headed down the right path in an entertaining style.

Excellent insight from a modern day master commercial writer. 4 stars due to a bit too much personal history - would have rather had more style.

I do not read Stephen King's fiction, but I recommend this book. He offers practical advice. Examples: read and write a lot; do not plan or plot a story. It is a simple, straight-to-the-point book.

About the author

Stephen King is the author of more than sixty books, all of them worldwide bestsellers. His recent work includes the short story collection You Like It Darker, Holly, Fairy Tale, Billy Summers, If It Bleeds, The Institute, Elevation, The Outsider, Sleeping Beauties (cowritten with his son Owen King), and the Bill Hodges trilogy: End of Watch, Finders Keepers, and Mr. Mercedes (an Edgar Award winner for Best Novel and a television series streaming on Peacock).
