About this ebook

From the author of the wildly popular bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens comes the go-to guide that helps teens cope with major challenges they face in their lives—now updated for today’s social media age.

In this newly revised edition, Sean Covey helps teens figure out how to approach the six major challenges they face: gaining self-esteem, dealing with their parents, making friends, being wise about sex, coping with substances, and succeeding at school and planning a career.

Covey understands the pain and confusion that teens and their parents experience in the face of these weighty, life-changing, and common difficulties. He shows readers how to use the 7 Habits to cope with, manage, and ultimately conquer each challenge—and become happier and more productive.

Now updated for the digital and social media age, Covey covers how technology affects these six decisions, keeping the information and advice relevant to today’s teenagers.

If you want your teenager to grow up to be a homophobic, anti-abortionist, anti-feminist, purity-ring-wearing chauvinist, give them this book. I am completely serious. This book masks its abstinence-until marriage conviction beneath a thin layer of sugarcoating. It also not too subtly tells people (chiefly women) that the only way they can be moral people is remain a virgin until they marry and adopt a lifestyle of domestic servitude and motherhood. But this book doesn’t stop there, in addition to telling teens having sex will make them inferior beings, it tells teens that even intense kissing and hugging will ruin their purity and will make them feel guilty for the rest of their lives. This book is filled with quality scientific evidence like: birth control is almost always ineffective and pornography is just as addictive and harmful as crack cocaine. I am not making this up it actually says that. But with all this talk of sex, they still overlooked a very large important part of teen sexuality: homosexuality. The writer of the book is so bigoted he didn’t even feel comfortable mentioning it. Though this book has some good advice here and there, it is along the lines of: drugs are bad and don’t drop out of high school. No kidding, really? The only enjoyable part of reading this book was mocking the author’s pathetic attempt to sound hip and appeal to teens.

The content is good. It drives me nuts that the page numbers don't match up. It's hard for me to read on my computer because I've given all of my copies out to my students. I never know what page we're on.
