Very hard to stay with follow understand. Written like a dream or a trip on drugs where nothing seems to make sense. As an American I found the whole story bizarre. If this is intellectual then so is Pootytang's speech.

firstly this book should be banned. i think he's making fun of the Islamic angel, Jibrail. secondly, i dont understand what rubbish he writes.

Ignore the comment Jihad. It happens on every site. This book tackles an awkward subject in a way very few care to do or are brave enough to do. Really love the attention to history without diverting into weaker or false hadiths the way many authors do in trying to prove a point. Rather this was an investigation of something already there, a series of events as opposed to the author creating the point or event.

Salman Rushdie is the author of fourteen previous novels, including Midnight’s Children (for which he won the Booker Prize and the Best of the Booker), Shame, The Satanic Verses, The Moor’s Last Sigh, and Quichotte, all of which have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize; a collection of stories, East, West; a memoir, Joseph Anton; a work of reportage, The Jaguar Smile; and three collections of essays, most recently Languages of Truth. His many awards include the Whitbread Prize for Best Novel, which he won twice; the PEN/Allen Foundation Literary Service Award; the National Arts Award; the French Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger; the European Union’s Aristeion Prize for Literature; the Budapest Grand Prize for Literature; and the Italian Premio Grinzane Cavour.
