Very entertaining, whether or not you've seen the anime series. There are, of course, some contextual/referential humor instances, but it certainly doesn't depend on them, (and the adaptation pretty much erases them anyway), so potential readers who might be freaked out by the content seeming too "foreign" to really enjoy won't miss out and should give it a chance. If you like uh... let's say 'plots'... with many threads to follow, then this narrative ball of yarn will probably hit just right. If you've already seen the anime or read the light novels, this should feel like an additional experience, not just a repeat. Narita's sideways sense of humor and tendancy to abrubtly shift scenes, sometimes frantically, or have disperate scenes (litterally) run into others bely his talent for character depth and weaving an increasingly rich world which captivates the reader. The whole series is underrated, IMHO. Try it!
