Extremely revealing. I saw a Grant I never knew. If possible he could be described as a ordinary/extraordinary man. His greatness is underrated.

Very well written and engaging. This book is not easy to put down. I've read two others by this author and I feel that this is the best one.

Forts don't have sisters, moron. And as for the stupidest, most illogical beginning to a sentence ever penned, I submit: "His maiden military efforts ... " So simple, non-gyno words like "first" or "initial," maybe "inaugural," just wouldn't do, right? And I'm SO sure "Granny Lee" would approve of the phrase as well, but only AFTER he shot you in a duel.

Ron Chernow is the prizewinning author of six previous books and the recipient of the 2015 National Humanities Medal. His first book, The House of Morgan, won the National Book Award, Washington: A Life won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography, and Alexander Hamilton—the inspiration for the Broadway musical—won the George Washington Book Prize. A past president of PEN America, Chernow has been the recipient of eight honorary doctorates. He resides in Brooklyn, New York.
