15 years ago I asked my wife to marry me and this book was such an impact on us that her ring is an aes sedai ring. I didn't notice the Nordic references the first time around either. Perrin (Thor), Matt (Odin), Rand (Tyr). It's so obvious now. It's the most epic story I've ever heard. He can get long in the tooth at times, but it's worth it. Brandon Sandersons Stormlight Archive is another that has such epic scope that it might surpass TWOT. But there is none that has lived in their writing world more than Jordan, the amount of characters he kept up with is astonishing.
