About this ebook

Demigods Nico di Angelo and Will Solace must endure the terrors of Tartarus to rescue an old friend in this thrilling adventure co-written by New York Times #1 best-selling author Rick Riordan and award-winning author Mark Oshiro. Percy Jackson fans, rejoice! Nico and Will have a book of their own! As the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo has been through so much, from the premature deaths of his mother and sister, to being outed against his will, to losing his friend Jason during the trials of Apollo. But there is a ray of sunshine in his life--literally: his boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo. Together the two demigods can overcome any obstacle or foe. At least, that's been the case so far . . . Now Nico is being plagued by a voice calling out to him from Tartarus, the lowest part of the Underworld. He thinks he knows who it is: a reformed Titan named Bob whom Percy and Annabeth had to leave behind when they escaped Hades's realm. Nico's dreams and Rachel Dare's latest prophecy leave little doubt in Nico's mind that Bob is in some kind of trouble. Nico has to go on this quest, whether Mr. D and Chiron like it or not. And of course Will insists on coming with. But can a being made of light survive in the darkest part of the world? and what does the prophecy mean that Nico will have to "leave something of equal value behind?" Nico will have to face demons both internal and external as his relationship with Will is tested to the core in this standalone adventure featuring two of the most popular characters in the Percy Jackson saga. it's a great book but my lord how many times are you gonna only refer to will as nicos boyfriend. In all the other books you don't refer to Annabeth percy jason piper hazel or frank as his gf or her bf every 3 sentances. All that's said when referring to Will is "his boyfriend this" and "his boyfriend that" Will is his own character in his own right. At this point its blantonly obvious that youre forcing it. I loved the book otherwise.

As a stand-alone book, this is a good read. I like the message of embracing the entirety of oneself. It's cute to see the soft side of Nico and his interaction with Will. However, I don't like the fact that most characters like Percy is somewhat OOC. *Spoiler Alert* The Percy that we know has undying personal loyalty and not the type to let Nico and Will take the quest just because of his hectic college life or the trauma he have from Tartarus. Same with Annabeth. They owe Bob big time. - Inserting the previews of their encounter with the nymph just made the whole plot messier. - The book tried so hard to cite reference to the PJO, HOO and TOA series that it's giving me cringe instead of nostalgia. - The attempt to imitate Rick's way of giving funny names to mythical creatures was a failure. - Overusage of the word "boyfriend" towards the entire book. UPDATE: It makes me wonder though why this book have a different feels compared to Rick's other works.

A beautiful story about accepting your past and darkness along with taking the effort to understand another person and choosing to love them despite everything, with no strings attached.
