About this ebook

From the New York Times–bestselling author comes “a dramatic, suspenseful tale” of one woman’s survival and her protector’s promise to find answers (Fresh Fiction).

The arrival of a single black rose signals danger to come for Kylie Brewer. Recovering from a brutal attack that claimed three years of her memory and her chance at a promising career, Kylie just wants to pick up the remaining fragments of her life. She returns to her hometown of Conard City to live with her sister but soon learns that putting the past in its place won’t be easy.

Marine sergeant Evan Cooper—a trusted family friend who agrees to help Kylie—can’t ignore his protective instincts. Or the steadily growing desire he feels for a woman who has overcome so much. He vows to help keep Kylie’s demons at bay . . . but someone else has plans to finish what they started.

I love the way that Lee simultaneously developed her mysterious, thought provoking plot and her intriguing characters. The story kept me guessing, for the most part. I'll admit that there were times where I found the tale a bit predictable, but that wasn't all too often. And really, as romances go, most of them have a formula that they follow to end up at the HEA. But this is definitely the type of story where you can sit back and relax as it unfolds before you, getting to know the characters along the way as they come into their own in the new `norm`that they've found for themselves. The characters themselves really make the story. Their intricate pasts play directly into the present action. And the budding chemistry between them? It had me hooked. All in all this was a great, quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's one that I'd definitely recommend to others. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
