Goodreads Choice Winner, Best Young Adult Fiction of 2019

In this #1 New York Times bestselling novel that’s perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication—they can’t get within a few feet of each other without risking their lives.

Can you love someone you can never touch?

Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.

The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.

Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella, she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.

What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

I thoroughly enjoyed Five Feet Apart and 10/10 would recommend it for anyone who’s looking for a good story above everything else. The direction the movie took made for a surprising outcome and even though you could argue the ending was a bit ambiguous in some way; it was satisfying because it was real. You could clearly tell the writers had done their research on cystic fibrosis and the set designers were very specific and detailed for a movie that primarily takes place in one building; being the hospital. One stand out aspect of the movie I really enjoyed was the silent moments that made it so you had to put two and two together for yourself, and I appreciate the trust the writers and directors put into the audience so the movie didn’t end up being extremely expository. It was a pretty small cast when it comes to main roles which really allowed us to understand these characters and their stories, and I found that to be extremely important for a movie like this;

Five feet apart deals with two characters who are battling cystic fibrosis and other lung problems and slowly begin to like each other. The plot of the book was smooth and some of the dialouges were well-written and heart touching. The characterization of every main character was simply superb but I liked Stella and Will a lot. The book conveys the theme of CF in a soothing way and other themes like love, loss, friendship, family relationships are also portrayed. The ending could've been better because in such books one expects the climax to be mind blowing or exciting or satisfying. If you don't feel awkward to the language used (because I felt awkward), then it's an easy read.

This is an incredible book, the best I've read by far. I loved it so much, and it brought tears to my eyes. It's such an incredible story, I recommend it to anyone who even thinks about reading it. It's such a touching story, I honestly can't express my love for this book. It taught me so much about a disease I didn't even know existed. Please if you have a chance of reading Five Feet Apart, I really recommend this book. I loved it so much. My favorite book by far.
