I love this book, even memorized parts of it subconsciously. I've been a fan of Star Trek, specifically "The Next Generation" for a while now and I've never gotten bored of it; I don't think I ever will. I have a friend who's a long time Trekkie to the extreme whom I find it fun to discuss with, so I gave him my copy of this book to borrow. I've also been a fan of the Riker/Troi relationship, and I'm hoping they'll get back together, although her and Worf don't make a bad couple... just saying. I can read this book over and over and never get tired of it. In fact, I'm using it for a school project in my story analysis class. We are supposed to read a book at least 100 pages long (this suffices, since it's 352 pages) and fill out an analysis form on it. Up to this point, we've analyzed only short stories, so I quickly jumped at the opportunity to bring the Star Trek world into my studies. Peter David writes really well; I also read another one of his books, "Q-in-law" and enjoyed it very much, although not as much as "Imzadi". He writes things that the characters would be likely to say in a real Star Trek episode; he even makes his characters act the way we would expect of the beloved members of the TNG family. He has it all figured out! I'll admit, I'm a Star Trek fanatic if there ever was one. I wish to no end that Starfleet was real and possible now. I've often wondered what I would be when I grow up; when I was little, I used to say I would like to be an actress. Now that I must seriously consider these types of questions, I think in more "real" terms. I considered being a writer, specifically a storywriter, because I've always loved writing, but only when it's creative (I only like reporting and reviewing when I'm in a strange mood or bored). So when Star Trek became a big obsession in my life, I decided I wanted nothing more than to go into the fleet. It's something that I really want to do with my life, and I feel so discouraged that I can't. But I believe that someday we will venture out into deep space, even if that won't happen in my lifetime. Peter David knows how to expand on the original episodes, and make me feel like there’s more to the Star Trek world, specifically TNG. I had my doubts when I first found out about fan fics being written, but I got excited about the main idea of this book when my mother told me about it, and took my chances: “How bad can it be?” Well, it was better than I was expecting. I pictured everything as I read, and it was just like a TNG episode. I have to admit, when I know a certain book series or TV series really well, I come up with fan fics in my head, and they can be really good so that I can see it looking like a real episode in my head. I can anticipate what facial expression the character would be making in a particular situation, what they would say, how, what their next move would be, and how they would go about it. But Peter David has an extraordinary talent. I admire his work, and this book was well worth reading.
