I love these books of Paul Bennetts. You can truly immerse and lose yourself in the period of time and the characters. My favorite parts tend to be where Gerald is involved. As a commoner, he is not respected by the Royals, except for Beverly and her father, And Anna, yet he continues to persevere, serve honorably, and eventually gets the respect he deserves. He is a shrewd battle tested warrior, who has a big heart. In the Battle of,the River, he really shows his battle and military smarts with the tactics he uses. Makes me want to,grab my sword and go,on a journey with them.

Against all odds a military strike was a su cess. Not my usual reading material but found it intriguing enough to read to the end. I liked it.

Paul Bennet has a way of drawing you right into his stories. You can feel the bitting cold, and fear filled adrenaline rushing through you. I really enjoyed it.
