Ratings and reviews

I do not know much of the history of Turkey, which is maybe one of the reasons why this book is so intriguing to me. I also like a book that poses a challange to the reader; sometimes we get more out of a book that we have to reach more deeply into our thought processes. According to reviews this book is excellent and compelling. I look forward to reading something by the world known Pamuk

Ka's struggle throughout the novel captures the same struggle experienced by the young secular generation. Having to choose between God and Science. State and Family. Modernity and Tradition. Heart and Mind

I really loved the political elements in this book, and the view of a culture that is so different from ours. A fascinating and entertaining read and the language is so beautiful and alluring. However I think it could've been a bit shorter.
